Children's Friend, a Rhode Island non-profit organization founded by Harriet Ware, has been serving at-risk children and youth since 1834. As Rhode Island's leading provider of child welfare, family support, mental health, and youth development services, their mission is to help young children reach their full potential with quality care and education. The Children's Friend possesses a successful rate of servicing over 16,000 local participants that in past years included:

- 1,210 families received crisis intervention, parent support, and other services through the Family Support Centers
- 1,559 children and their family members received individual and family counseling services addressing issues of loss, parent-child conflict, school and behavioral issues

And this is only a snapshot of a multitude of on-going services the Children's Friend continues to provide.
