US Patent No. 7,509,540 was issued on March 24, 2009 and is entitled "Method and Apparatus for Maintaining the Status of Objects in Computer Networks Using Virtual State Machines."
This patent is directed at further extending the intellectual property claims for various key aspects of the company's flagship CaseSentry systems and application availability management solution. This patent covers the advanced technique that is employed by CaseSentry to help manage large-scale networks that span multiple network technologies and network events (faults, performance, security, etc.) using virtual state machines to provide real-time information collection and assessment of network performance and service indicators. CaseSentry utilizes specially designed finite state machines that provide both the speed and flexibility to adapt to changing network conditions and to supplement the discovery and validation process for managed objects. Based on state machine instructions, CaseSentry's decision process modules are engaged to further verify and identify the current state of the monitored objects as well as surrounding devices for determining which actions associated with an identified state should be performed.
