ShoreGroup's latest patent acknowledges unique approach for enterprise management scalability and performance

ShoreGroup, Inc., a premier converged network and systems management solutions and IT professional services firm, is pleased to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office granted the company its fifth in a series of allowed patents for systems management technology. US Patent No. 7,509,540 was issued on March 24, 2009 and is entitled "Method and Apparatus for Maintaining the Status of Objects in Computer Networks Using Virtual State Machines."

This patent is directed at further extending the intellectual property claims for various key aspects of the company's flagship CaseSentry systems and application availability management solution. The technology covered under this patent plays a significant role in the enablement of CaseSentry's scalability, allowing the platform to manage some of the largest integrated voice and data networks in the nation. CaseSentry's patented architecture provides a powerful foundation from which a variety of systems and application management capabilities are performed, including monitoring, diagnosing and documenting problems that impact systems and processes within a complex network environment. The capabilities reside on a single platform that contains the fully integrated service management and systems management capabilities that organizations need to effectively manage and support their vital networked systems and applications, converged communications, contact centers and complex end-to-end business process transactions. The CaseSentry Systems Management solution is available as part of a comprehensive, cost effective management service that includes complete systems management consultation, implementation, maintenance and change administration.

This patent covers the advanced technique that is employed by CaseSentry to help manage large-scale networks that span multiple network technologies and network events (faults, performance, security, etc.) using virtual state machines to provide real-time information collection and assessment of network performance and service indicators. CaseSentry utilizes specially designed finite state machines that provide both the speed and flexibility to adapt to changing network conditions and to supplement the discovery and validation process for managed objects. Based on state machine instructions, CaseSentry's decision process modules are engaged to further verify and identify the current state of the monitored objects as well as surrounding devices for determining which actions associated with an identified state should be performed.

David Lovy, ShoreGroup's Chief Engineer, Brant Fagan, Manager of Software Development and Robert Bojanek, Executive Vice President, co-developed this ShoreGroup patent. All are members of the team engaged with the initial CaseSentry Systems Management solution design.

Commenting on the patent, David Lovy said, "Since its inception, ShoreGroup has consistently delivered solutions that approach the challenges of network, systems and application management from an innovative perspective. We continuously question standard industry conventions in our quest to design effective and efficient enterprise management solutions that are quickly implemented, easy to use, and unobtrusive to the network being managed. ShoreGroup's latest patent grant continues to confirm that CaseSentry is uniquely architected to manage the availability and performance of large enterprise-class networks. CaseSentry's unique combination of functionality and architecture provides the built-in management processes required for maintaining visibility and optimization of complex IT, telecom, and contact center systems."
