GLBT Radio Network, LLC announced today over 10,000 downloads of its customized radio player application for Apple's iPhone. The application debuted as a free download via the Apple iTunes store on March 17, 2009. In less than a month the Gay dance radio application has been listed as one Apple's top 50 free music applications.

The much anticipated iPhone application was released as a mobile listening tool for Internet based radio station GayInternetRadioLive.com (G.I.R.L.) The wildly popular dance formatted station appeals to all dance music enthusiasts but specifically targets the GLBT demographic.

"Time spent listening to the station has increased by nearly 10%" over the last 20 days, said Christopher Leonard, President and CEO of GLBT Radio Network. "The response to the application has been remarkable. The feedback from our audience has flooded my inbox with excitement over the freedom of being able to take the station with them while they're on the go. I've received feedback from listeners while at the gym, sitting poolside, and even one email from a guy on his boat in Fort Lauderdale."

Unique to this iPhone application is the ability to serve powerful branding opportunities with the use of colorful banner advertising that when clicked opens a browser within the application. The audio stream is not interrupted and customized web pages built specifically for iPhone browsing are displayed. "This provides endless opportunities for advertisers to provide direct response marketing such as "tap to call" and "tap to email" options while the advertisement is literally in the hands of the consumer. Traditional in-stream audio ads generally 10 to 30 seconds in length, blend in with the dance music format and promote gay and gay friendly businesses worldwide.

Some additional features include:

  •     .3MB application size.
  •     128 kbps stream for WiFi and a 64 kbps stream for 3G listening.
  •     Custom branded application with no directories to search.
  •     "One tap" access to audio streams.
  •     Artist and Song title information displayed at the top of the screen.
  •     Instant feedback buttons to call the request lines or email the station.
