Kosher.com, the largest online kosher food store, outlined today some of the coming changes to its online presence. "It was time for a change," said Brian Cooper, Kosher.com's CTO. "We have struggled with the same technology that has been in place since our inception back in the late nineties and it was high time for a complete overhaul."
The new site will feature an entirely new look and feel including a revamped logo. The design will be innovative with contemporary ecommerce functionality and will enable the user to shop with confidence and ease. It will also incorporate new administrative tools to facilitate quicker and more efficient order fulfillment.
"We are in the business of delivering an important line of products to the customer. When you rely on timely delivery of your weekly groceries in order to feed yourself and your children it is important that we utilize the latest and greatest technology available," said Ben Karr, head of Kosher.com fulfillment's department. "Our goal has been to take all that we've learned over the past ten years both from an administrative point of view and from a customer's standpoint and build it into an exciting new site."
The local New York shopper has become accustomed to a quality product, when and where they want it. But Kosher.com takes it a step further by making over 15,000 kosher foods available with just a click of the mouse.
"It is a time-sensitive issue," said Cooper. "You have to realize that we need to assemble a diverse selection of products -- from eggs and cheese to fresh prepared meals, fine cuts of meats, and frozen ice cream -- and get it to the customer, within hours, fresh and on time."
"As we will roll out the new website not only will the consumer immediately feel the improvement in the shopping experience but we at ground zero where these many different perishable and non-perishable foods get pulled together will finally have the tools to make the whole process run a lot smoother, allowing us to handle a much larger volume of orders per day."
The Kosher.com business ranges from shipping kosher food to troops in Iraq, shipping weekly orders to religiously observant Jewish families in Manhattan, to sending Passover products to less observant Jews all over the country.
"We are just coming out of our most successful Passover season yet, having not only increased orders and order sizes across the board but for the first time we offered two different Passover departments on the site: One geared towards the local New York shopper who looks to us for everything from produce and eggs to meats and fish; and the other geared towards the shopper in Anytown, USA where the basic Passover products are sought after like matzo and Passover baking needs," explained Cooper.
Going forward the new site will also focus on these two separate markets as the fervently religious family in Manhattan has a very different need than the family in Albuquerque, New Mexico who may be searching for great kosher meat products and some fresh bakery items.
We have set up our fulfillment process to be able to fill a very ordinary and detailed supermarket shopping list and at the same time ship a mouth-watering pound cake to a non-kosher consumer in the Midwest, who views our kosher foods as fresh, delicious, and conveniently available.
As one of the largest kosher supermarkets in the United States, Kosher.com offers more than 15,000 products online. It offers an easy-to-use Web site for quick shopping and is known nationally for its selection of kosher meat, baked goods, gluten-free and non-dairy products, gift baskets, and a large selection of kosher gourmet foods.
Free delivery is available in most of Manhattan and Riverdale, New York, with more New York locations being added in the coming months.
