This senior-level administrative and board involvement makes Jim perfectly suited to lead B. E. Smith's board services and CEO search initiatives.
Lenexa, KS (PRWEB) April 10, 2009
B. E. Smith, a leading healthcare provider of interim leadership, permanent executive placement and consulting solutions, recently hired James Brophy as vice president of board services and CEO search.
Brophy, who assumed his new duties on March 2, has more than 25 years of experience in board leadership and corporate governance of for-profit companies and not-for-profit organizations. He also is an experienced healthcare executive, having extensively served for 14 years as a chief executive officer of hospitals in healthcare systems.
"Jim is a values-centered leader who earns confidence, trust and respect," said Doug Smith, chief executive officer, B. E. Smith. "He will draw on his considerable experience with boards, and his deep network of CEO colleagues, to continue growing B. E. Smith's consulting solutions and CEO search service capabilities."
In his new role, Brophy will lead B. E. Smith's business development and management of services for boards of directors and CEOs. His responsibilities include serving as a strategist and consultant in board advisory services, including board assessment, education, development and succession planning; strategic planning; mergers, acquisitions and partnerships; strategic alliances; organizational turnarounds and community benefit. He also will mentor board members and CEO candidates, serving as a consultant and trusted advisor to both.
Brophy served as a member of the board of directors of the Illinois Hospital Association, HealthNet -- a managed care company, Association Venture Corporation and three hospitals. Brophy is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. He will work closely with Kathy Noland, RN, Ph.D., senior vice president of executive search, and Julee Thompson, RN, MSN, MBA, senior vice president of consulting solutions, both of whom will remain closely involved in CEO-related initiatives.
According to Smith, Brophy's commitment to quality has led to significant awards for several hospitals where he served as president, including the Missouri Quality Award and the American Hospital Association's Quest for Quality Award.
"Jim has led the strategic planning process at four hospitals, consistently achieving significant operating profit margins. He was directly involved in the sale of one hospital and completed the successful merger of two other hospitals," Smith said. "This senior-level administrative and board involvement makes Jim perfectly suited to lead B. E. Smith's board services and CEO search initiatives."
Brophy, who earned fellowship status in the American College of Healthcare Executives, has a master's degree in healthcare administration from St. Louis University.
