Company takes proactive food safety step to mitigate potential health risks.

Vital Choice Wild Seafood & Organics, the leading to-your-door provider of premium wild Alaskan salmon, wild seafood, and selected organic and kosher foods, recently announced that all of their canned seafood is now 100 percent free of bisphenol-A (BPA) materials.

According to a recent report in Natural News, only three U.S. food companies have confirmed use of 100% BPA-free packaging, so this move places Vital Choice in a rare position.

BPA is a controversial, FDA-approved plastic resin commonly used in food packaging. Because of safety concerns raised by credible scientific critiques, Vital Choice transitioned to BPA-free packaging for all of its canned seafood products, including wild Alaskan sockeye salmon, Albacore tuna, Portuguese sardines and Atlantic mackerel.

Recently, Congress introduced legislation to establish a BPA ban on all food and beverage containers. This move came after a major BPA producer began refusing to sell BPA for use in food and drink containers for children younger than three years.

"While the FDA says that BPA is safe, recent scientific reviews revealed substantial evidence of potential harm. As a company that cares deeply about our customers' health and well being, we feel a strong responsibility to make our packaging as safe as possible," said Vital Choice founder and president Randy Hartnell.
