Point Brokerage will become Point Brokerage of the Southwest, a wholly owned subsidiary of JGR Enterprises LLC. The company's change in philosophy has been fueled by the growing need for regional, independent brokers. Mark Baum, president of the Association of Sales and Marketing Companies said, "I can't help but feel that sheer demand will call for the re-emergence of the regional, independent broker who can give time and attention to smaller manufacturers."
Thomas Haigh, reporter for the New York Times, published an article January 11, 2009 which highlights this trend. While most of the brokerage houses have continued to consolidate, it has left many manufacturers without reliable representation due to competitive product conflicts. "With so few brokers to choose from, a manufacturer is left in a bind, because it is hard to find an agent who does not already represent a competing brand," says Haigh. "This has created an opportunity for smaller, regional brokers," states Gene Ratliff, president of Point Brokerage of the Southwest. "We are confident that the market is in need of an aggressive relationship focused broker that can enhance the brands that may feel currently under represented."
