Big Charity Tournament Set for Orlando

With most poker tournaments, it's all about taking - other players' chips, that is. But April 17 at the first annual Emma's Miracle Poker Challenge, poker will also be about giving.

Just a $50 donation benefiting the Children's Miracle Network gets players 10,000 in chips for the 6 p.m. Friday event at the International Plaza Resort & Spa, 10100 International Drive, Orlando, Florida. The CMN raises money for children's hospitals, and Emma - after multiple open-heart surgeries - is one of their success stories.

The top three finishers receive a seat into the World Poker Tour's Amateur Poker League Championship on April 18. In addition to this last opportunity to win an entry into the Championship, other prizes will be given for the high hand of the tournament, bubble player, first person knocked out and more.

Additionally, prizes can be won through a raffle and auction event. The tournament is presented by Poker Whiz Wheel, the No. 1 Texas Hold'em Strategy/Reference Guide.

South Florida-based Poker Pro Magazine, one of the three largest poker publications in the world, is one of the event sponsors.

"If I was going to play one event all year, this would be it," said John Wenzel, editor-in-chief of Poker Pro. "Not because of how much you can win, but because of what you are doing."
