Ignoring your roof is the most common mistake

Commercial roofers D&D Roofing and Sheetmetal, Inc. and Palmer-West Construction, Inc. have joined forces with commercial roofing products manufacturer Johns Manville to host a free "Recession-Proof Your Roof" Webinar later this month.

The one-hour Webinar is designed specifically to help commercial and industrial property owners and managers take control of the expense involved in keeping their roof systems in good working order at a time when money and credit are particularly tight. This is particularly timely, because Spring temperatures often reveal new damage caused by Winter snow and ice.

"Ignoring your roof is the most common mistake," says Palmer-West President Ralph Blake, "nobody thinks about them until they leak." Once a roof leaks, the resulting expense can quickly spiral out of control if machinery or inventory are also damaged. "Rooftops tend to deteriorate about four times faster than the rest of a building," adds D&D Vice President Sam Chamberlin, "and we're seeing the recession take a toll on upkeep." Deferred maintenance can lead to an even faster breakdown of roof structures, but there are practical steps property owners can take to minimize the damage without breaking the bank.

Just stepping out onto a roof can reveal a lot about its condition and help avert expensive future problems. Checking for ponding, the accumulation of debris and blocked drains are a good start. "But," warns Johns Manville's Manager of Group Education David Shire, "safety is a critical concern. Rooftops are dangerous places to be, which is why we always recommend getting a professional to inspect your roof." D&D and Palmer West both offer free roof inspections as well as a range of scheduled maintenance plans that help minimize long-term expense.

The "Recession-Proof Your Roof" Webinar will take place on April 22, at 1 pm PST/3 pm CST. To participate, register at https://www2.gotowebinar.com/register/869574962. For more details, contact D&D Roofing at 775-685-5555 or Palmer West Construction at 763-428-1867.
