Sponsorship of "America's Largest Earth Day Action" encourages environmental responsibility with technology

Motorola, Inc. and the Motorola Foundation are joining forces with Earth Day Network and the Green Apple Festival to inform and educate Americans on the importance of cell phone recycling and reuse, as well as overall sustainability in the world of technology. As a presenting sponsor of Earth Day on the National Mall in Washington DC as well as volunteer actions and Thank You Shows in ten cities, April 17 - 19, 2009, Motorola will activate cell phone recycling centers throughout the Earth Day weekend events. Motorola also will showcase the world's first CarbonFree® Certified mobile phone, MOTO™ W233 Renew, which is currently available through T-Mobile USA. Additionally, Motorola encourages people everywhere to use the online recycling site available at http://www.motorola.com/renew.

Cell Phone Recycling - It Counts
More than 400,000 cell phones are retired each day in the U.S. but only about 10 percent are recycled. Recycling old cell phones means fewer phones in landfills. A leader in cell phone recycling efforts for years, Motorola currently accepts any mobile phone or accessory for recycling. Motorola is encouraging Green Apple Festival volunteers and attendees to bring in old cell phones and drop them off at recycling bins throughout concert venues. For those unable to attend the weekend events, Motorola has an online Web site (http://www.motorola.com/renew) where users can print out a shipping label to send in their old cell phones.

MOTO W233 Renew - Making Eco Affordable
During the "Earth Day on the Mall" event in Washington, D.C., Motorola will showcase MOTO W233 Renew, the world's first mobile phone made using plastics comprised of recycled water bottles. Renew is an affordable, environmentally responsible device for cell phone users committed to making a difference and reducing their carbon footprint. Through an alliance with Carbonfund.org, Motorola is offsetting the carbon dioxide emissions in manufacturing, distributing and operating the phone through investments in the organization's third-party validated renewable energy and reforestation projects, making it the world's first carbon-neutral mobile phone.

Green Apple Festival - Get Involved
The nationwide Green Apple Festival and Earth Day Network events will be coordinated in 10 U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The weekend of activity and service will culminate on Sunday, April 19, with free "Thank You Concerts" for volunteers at popular music venues in each participating city. In Washington D.C., "Earth Day on the National Mall" will be a free festival featuring performances and speakers throughout the day.

Motorola will showcase the MOTO W233 Renew, collect old cell phones for recycling and host a charging station for cell phones and other gadgets at the Motorola booth on the National Mall.
