Cloud computing technology is evolving rapidly, giving users many more choices for where and how to develop, test and deploy applications on the cloud, depending on the level of security, regulatory compliance, scalability and cost savings desired
Santa Barbara, Calif. (PRWEB) April 20, 2009
RightScale®, Inc., the leader in cloud computing management, today announced that the popular RightScale Cloud Management Platform will support the global debut of the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (powered by Eucalyptus) to help enterprises deploy and manage "private" clouds in their own data centers. Organizations that install the just-announced "technology preview" release of Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud, which is released as part of the Ubuntu 9.04 Server Edition, will be able to create Eucalyptus-based private clouds on their internal IT infrastructure and can then choose to register them with the RightScale Cloud Management Platform's Free Edition, at no charge. For the first time, enterprises will be able to leverage the power of RightScale's Web-based cloud management platform internally, enabling them to begin to experience the power of cloud management for server and storage resources in their own data center, as well as for "hybrid" cloud deployments, which use public and private clouds together.
(Editor's note: please see related news release from Canonical, announced today, "Ubuntu 9.04 Server Edition Released").
"Cloud computing technology is evolving rapidly, giving users many more choices for where and how to develop, test and deploy applications on the cloud, depending on the level of security, regulatory compliance, scalability and cost savings desired," said Thorsten von Eicken, RightScale CTO and founder.
"The integration of Ubuntu and Eucalyptus for open source, private cloud deployments will open up cloud computing to a very broad market, and we are thrilled that the RightScale Platform now operates as an integral part of this solution. This is the natural extension of RightScale's multi-cloud strategy, enabling users to easily deploy and manage applications on any cloud -- public, private, or hybrid -- with one consistent and easy-to-use management platform."
The RightScale Cloud Management Platform lets any organization tap the enormous power of cloud computing for scalable, cost-effective IT infrastructure on demand, with complete control and portability. By choosing RightScale, Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud users will be able to maximize the cost efficiency and flexibility of their cloud applications by either testing in their own IT environment and deploying on the public cloud, developing on a public cloud and deploying in their own data center, or deploying some applications in a private cloud and some in a public cloud. Through the RightScale Platform, users will be able to view and manage all their clouds - public, private, and hybrid -- with one common interface.
"It is key for the future of cloud computing that users have the choice and freedom to run cloud services on their own infrastructure, the freedom to choose which management tools they wish to use, and also the freedom to choose between different service providers. These ideals are at the heart of Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud. We're delighted to be able to launch the product with RightScale, a leading cloud management company, in place to provide our users with the option of using RightScale's automated management tools for their private clouds," said Simon Wardley, software services manager at Canonical.
The RightScale Cloud Management Platform will be available for Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud users on Thursday, April 23, when the Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (powered by Eucalyptus) will be available for download as part of Ubuntu 9.04 Server Edition.
