Open Invention Network Named “Cool Vendor” by Leading Analyst Firm

Open Invention Network (OIN), a collaborative enterprise that enables innovation in open source and an increasingly vibrant ecosystem around Linux, today announced that it has been named one of Gartner's "Cool Vendors in Intellectual Property 2009."

Durham, NC (PRWEB) April 21, 2009 -- Open Invention Network (OIN), a collaborative enterprise that enables innovation in open source and an increasingly vibrant ecosystem around Linux, today announced that it has been named one of Gartner’s “Cool Vendors in Intellectual Property 2009,” in a March 2009 research report published by Gartner Inc. Written by Brian Prentice, “Cool Vendors in Intellectual Property 2009,” highlights selected companies that offer solutions which address some of the challenges emerging from a dynamic, intellectual-property (IP) environment.

“We are pleased to have been selected as a ‘Cool Vendor’ by Gartner,” said Keith Bergelt, CEO of Open Invention Network. “Our mission is to protect Linux developers, distributors and users from patent trolls and antagonistic businesses looking to leverage their IP for opportunistic financial gain or to stifle competition. By doing so, we help further the democratization of innovation. We are pleased to have been recognized for our efforts as well as some of the innovative programs we have created, including Linux Defenders.”

The Linux Defenders website is located at www.linuxdefenders.org.

About Gartner’s Cool Vendors Selection Process
Gartner’s listing does not constitute an exhaustive list of vendors in any given technology area, but rather is designed to highlight interesting, new and innovative vendors, products and services. Gartner disclaims all warranties, expressed and implied, with respect to this research, including any warranties of merchantability or fitness of a particular purpose.
Gartner defined a cool vendor as a company that offers technologies or solutions that are: innovative, enable users to do things they couldn’t do before; impactful, have, or will have, business impact (not just technology for the sake of technology); intriguing, have caught Gartner’s interest or curiosity in approximately the past six months.
