We hope that Association Jam will make it easier for these people, who are often so short of time and resources, to find the kind of concrete, practical, how-to information they need to be most effective and to stay energized in working for their cause.
Toronto (PRWEB) April 23, 2009
The explosion of online social media, coupled with the implosion of many traditional businesses, is changing the game for member-driven associations and donor-dependent non-profits. As new demands are placed on these kinds of organizations, fresh ideas are needed to help ensure their continuing relevance. AssociationJam.org is a new website all about the exchange of just these kinds of ideas.
Association Jam works in a similar way to popular 'social news' websites such as Digg and Reddit. Community members submit news stories, blog posts, YouTube videos or any other web content. Members can vote on the stories submitted by others. Current stories with many votes are 'promoted' to the front page of the site, allowing the collective interests of the membership to determine what content is featured. However, unlike most social news sites that include a broad selection of technology and general news content, Association Jam is strictly focused on information relevant to associations and non-profits.
The site is a project by Toronto-based Wild Apricot, a website and membership management software solution. "Membership-based organizations are our bread and butter. We see Association Jam as a way to help them succeed and grow," says Wild Apricot President and CEO Dmitry Buterin.
Stories featured on AssociationJam.org include tips for the use of social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook for fundraising, how best to find and manage volunteers, and techniques to attract new members to an organization. "There's an incredible wealth of information online for non-profit organizations, but sorting through it all can be quite daunting!" says Wild Apricot blogger and social technology enthusiast Rebecca Leaman. "We hope that Association Jam will make it easier for these people, who are often so short of time and resources, to find the kind of concrete, practical, how-to information they need to be most effective and to stay energized in working for their cause."
