Franwell, (http://www.franwell.com) the leader in RFID development for supply chains in food, pharmaceutical, and cargo, has been selected as a finalist for the "Best in Show" award by RFID Journal. The winner will be revealed during RFID Journal LIVE! 2009, which will take place in Orlando, April 27 - 29. Finalists were selected from entries of new products, which will be exhibited during the show.

Being unveiled publicly at RFID Journal Live!, Franwell's rfid>Sleeve, WR-100 is a wearable RFID system consisting of a reader, an antenna and a shielded sleeve enabled by Bluetooth. Designed to be worn on the lower arm, the WR-100 automatically scans RFID tags on products, cases or containers as the user handles them in their normal workflow.

As companies strive to achieve efficient and effective supply chains, there is a need to increase worker productivity while providing event data to the supporting supply chain systems. Enabling fast and accurate data capture has long-been the goal of RFID supporters and developers. Mobile devices are a very important part of the overall RFID solution and the next natural progression is taking the mobile solution to a hands-free solution; allowing the person who is handling product to work at their most natural and efficient state while capturing the information needed in a seamless and passive manner.

The rfid>Sleeve's lightweight and ergonomic design enables the user to work more efficiently and comfortably by offering a hands-free operation while providing more accurate results at differentiating individual products. Its Bluetooth communication with the host system also provides a more versatile data processing solution for various business needs. Also important, the rfid> Sleeve aims to protect the user from RF wave exposure with shielding materials integrated inside its breathable, flexible, and comfortable forearm mount accessory.

Franwell, Inc., together with University of Florida's Center for Food Distribution and Retailing, has completely designed, engineered, and prototyped this exciting new product. Franwell has a patent pending on this technology.

"We have been working feverishly to get this product ready for launch at RFID Journal Live! and were thrilled to learn we had been selected as a finalist in the 'Best in Show' award category," said Terri-Anne Crawford, VP and COO of Franwell. "We are very excited to have the opportunity to make a special presentation of our rfid>Sleeve in the exhibit hall, as well as demonstrating its capabilities to attendees that stop by our booth."

The RFID Journal Awards are given in recognition of excellence in the area of radio frequency identification. Attendees will be able to rate the "Best of Show" products by viewing presentations in the exhibit hall. The editors of RFID Journal will choose the Best in Show winner based on their opinions, the judges' scores, and attendee input.
