The Cherry Valley Foot and Ankle Center recently announced their self-pay fee schedule designed specifically for uninsured patients. The purpose of the self-pay fee schedule is three part. First, the self-pay fee schedule is intended to provide reasonable costs for healthcare. Second, it provides affordable access to care for uninsured patients who don't have the advantage of pre-negotiated discounts so common in private health insurance pans. And lastly, the self-pay fee schedule helps the uninsured be able to budget for healthcare expenses.
"If you're uninsured, healthcare becomes a black hole. You enter treatment with no knowledge of what you'll be required to pay. And that's scary," said Dr. Jeffrey Oster of The Cherry Valley Foot and Ankle Center. "Our goal is to provide care to the uninsured community in a way that's fair and affordable."
Discounts offered to uninsured patients on the self-pay fee schedule are based upon The Medicare approved fee schedule. The Cherry Valley Foot and Ankle Center then discounts these charges for uninsured patients by 30% less than what Medicare would pay for the same service. By doing so, uninsured patients can budget for services that are affordable and based off of a standard used by other insurance carriers.
"In a perfect world, every dollar you pay for health care would go towards the act of providing the care. But industry standards recognize that 30% of most healthcare dollars go toward the administration of the claim for acts such as billing, collecting, etc.," Oster said. "Our approach is simple. We don't need to process the claim of an uninsured patient so why not pass along that administrative savings to the patient?"
Discounts are only offered to patients who pay at the time of service. For more information regarding the self-pay plan at The Cherry Valley Foot and Ankle Center go to http://www.drjoster.com/self-pay_fee_policy.htm.
