Solutions provider integrates Xsigo virtual I/O to support virtual private data center offering

Xsigo Systems, the technology leader in I/O virtualization, and Meridian IT Inc., a Meridian Group International, Inc. company, today announced that the companies have successfully designed and deployed a cloud computing infrastructure for a global telecommunications firm. Employed as part of the firm's virtual private data center offering, the virtualization-based cloud infrastructure combines the Xsigo I/O Director, server virtualization software and management tools to achieve a 5X acceleration of application provisioning and save 50% on capital cost.

"To get new applications online quickly and to meet rigid service level agreements, cloud computing providers need a combination of agility, stability, and resource isolation that is impossible to achieve with traditional infrastructure solutions," said David Atkinson of Meridian. "With Xsigo virtual I/O, we architected an end-to-end solution that enabled this global service provider to deliver a superior level of service at far less cost."

Deployed globally, the cloud data center solution combines the Xsigo I/O Director, VMware ESX software, and management tools from 3Tera. Meridian IT provided the professional services and architecture consulting required to define and deploy the complete solution. Alternative infrastructure solutions would have required three times more switch ports, cards and cables than the Xsigo infrastructure, and would have cost nearly twice as much to buy. Because Xsigo virtual I/O is managed in software rather than hardware, entire virtual private data center environments can be configured in minutes, rather than the hours or even days required with conventional server I/O.

"Customers need solutions that take them beyond the server to next-generation architectures that span data center resources and help increase overall efficiency and resource utilization," said Jon Toor, VP of marketing at Xsigo. "Meridian tied the solution elements together, from the virtualization software to the infrastructure hardware, to help our mutual customer exceed their objectives."
