Sperry Top-Sider®, an iconic American brand that invented the boat shoe and the New York Yacht Club®, one of the preeminent yacht clubs in the world, had an extraordinary turnout for their event at the West 44th Street Clubhouse on Tuesday, April 14. More than 70 members of the press and 25 of NYYC's members attended the celebration to mark the organizations' new partnership and shared Passion for the Sea, while showcasing their commitment to promoting the sport and lifestyle of sailing.
The program featured guest speakers including Craig Reingold, president of Sperry Top-Sider, David K. Elwell Jr., commodore of the NYYC and Gary Jobson, famed racer and commentator for ESPN. From lifestyle and fashion media to performance marine press, everyone enjoyed a festive evening and learned more about this September's inaugural New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup, an international regatta featuring all amateur sailors, for which Sperry is the exclusive footwear sponsor.
"We were thrilled with both the number and variety of media representatives who joined us on Tuesday evening, " said Craig Reingold, president, Sperry Top-Sider. "We expected sailing press to have enthusiasm around the Invitational Cup in September, but we thought it was exceptional how much excitement the lifestyle and fashion press showed as well."
Held in the Club's historic model room, the night was bustling with interaction between NYYC members, media and Sperry Top-Sider executives. The press had an opportunity to preview Sperry's Fall 2009 men's and women's collections after hearing some of NYYC's history and plans for the Invitational Cup in Newport, RI this September 15-19, 2009.
"This was the first event to commemorate our partnership with Sperry Top-Sider and given the unbelievable response from the media, we're really looking forward to future events building up to the Invitational Cup in September," said the NYYC's John Mendez, chair of the event.
