Confused.com Comment on the Announcements in the 2009 Budget to Help Households Meet their Energy Bills

"Today's announcement should provide a welcome boost to the Government's ambitions."

Cardiff, UK (PRWEB) April 24, 2009 -- Gareth Kloet, head of energy prices at Confused.com, has commented on how the 2009 budget will affect household energy use:

"It's reassuring to know the Chancellor has taken this opportunity to reaffirm the Government's financial help for households that rely on the 'winter fuel payment'.

"Last year the Chancellor increased winter fuel payments in recognition of the staggering rise in electricity and gas prices. Today he has maintained them at their current level in this Budget, so that over 60s can continue to enjoy the higher allowance. The £250 for households, including those over 60yrs, and £400 for those over 80yrs, is great news, especially as this years price cuts by the energy companies have been dismal.

"In addition to the measures that seek to build on the one million homes insulated last year, this year's Budget announced an additional £375million to support energy and resource efficiency. With further investment in schemes such as the home insulation grants, the Government seems to have hit on a winning formula, although it's yet to be seen exactly how this money is to be invested.

"Today's announcement should provide a welcome boost to the Government's ambitions to reduce the amount of energy that is wasted through poorly insulated homes and reduce the number of people in so called 'fuel poverty'."
