Latest Research from Phoenix Marketing International: Canadian Affluent Investors a More Buoyant Bunch

Research shows affluent investors in Canada to be much more optimistic than their U.S. counterparts.

Phoenix Marketing International, one of the fastest growing research companies in the U.S., announced today some preliminary findings from its latest survey of affluent and high net worth households in Canada. Among the findings of this study are that affluent Canadian investors have a much more optimistic view of their economy, have been more proactive in contacting their financial advisor, and are more likely to increase their investments in the near term than are affluent investors in the U.S.

The Phoenix Marketing research, conducted in March, 2009, shows that about 40% of investors in Canada with $100K or more in liquid wealth were mostly optimistic about their economy over the next three months. In comparison, only about 20% of comparable investors in the U.S. were optimistic about their economy. Additionally, affluent Canadian investors have been more proactive in reaching out for advice in these hard economic times: over 30% have contacted their financial advisor for advice, versus only about 20% of affluent U.S. investors.

"More importantly, at the end of the first quarter, affluent Canadians appear to be more willing to move back into the stock market than their U.S. counterparts", stated David Thompson, Managing Director, Phoenix Affluent Market. "Our data suggests that many Canadian investors feel that this is a good time to cautiously move back into the market."

The Phoenix Canadian research study, part of its AMS Tracking Program, was conducted in March, 2009 among a representative sample of 710 Canadian households with more than $100K in investable assets. Of these respondents, 265 had more than $1 million in liquid wealth. The comparable U.S. study was fielded in February 2009 among 1,125 qualified affluent households.
