Lucy P. Marcus and Stefan Ogrodzinski have been appointed to help drive forward BioCity's rapid continuing development and are already putting their energies into building BioCity's reputation and profile, taking the organisation to new levels of national and international influence.
BioCity Nottingham was launched in 2003 and the award winning site already provides a supportive environment for 60 developing biotechnology and healthcare companies employing over 500. The facility was made possible by a huge donation of laboratory and office buildings and specialist equipment from BASF to Nottingham Trent University in 2001, resulting in a state-of-the-art three-building bioscience business campus.
Lucy P. Marcus is the founder and CEO of Marcus Venture Consulting, which works with clients across the globe in venture capital and private equity funds, institutions and corporations to help them create robust funding businesses. She sits on a number of boards around the world, including as chair of the board of the Aspen Institute Energy and Environment Awards, the board treasurer of the British American Project, and non-executive director, board treasurer, and chair of the board finance committee of the International Step-by-Step Association (ISSA). She is also a popular speaker on global economic trends and best practices for investment, private equity, venture capital, and entrepreneurship. Lucy's international profile and relationships, together with a solid understanding of financial management, make her a major asset to BioCity's growth plans.
Lucy commented: "Nothing is more important than supporting early stage companies, and particularly during this challenging economic time. These companies are the engine of our future economic growth and BioCity is perfectly placed to help nurture them and bring them to a point where they can become major employers, long term innovators, and strong contributors to the region and to the UK."
Stefan Ogrodzinski is an experienced entrepreneur in the Life Sciences sector, and brings over 20 years of sales, marketing, management and directorship experience to the board. He is a founding director of four Midlands-based Life Science companies; BioStatus, BioSuspensions, nanoTherics and magneCell, and a past Chairman and founding director of Medilink East Midlands Ltd.
He said: "BioCity is a valuable resource for East Midlands SME's in the healthcare and life science sectors. That value extends beyond the fine infrastructure and related facilities to the wide-ranging expertise and experience contained in the many companies and individuals who make up the BioCity community. Whilst serving on the BioCity board, I will be committed to harnessing that "added" value and making it more widely available in programmes and initiatives. I am firmly committed to the ongoing success and development of the healthcare and life-science sectors in the East Midlands."
BioCity Nottingham creates and develops early stage bioscience and pharmaceutical companies and offers flexible laboratory and office leasing arrangements meaning a company's growth requirements can be easily accommodated. This provides the ideal solution for many types of ventures including new start ups; university spin-outs, established SMEs and corporate relocations and expansions.
BioCity's Chief Executive, Glenn Crocker, says: "We are delighted to welcome Lucy P. Marcus and Stefan Ogrodzinski to the Board. Their joint expertise is perfectly aligned to help BioCity and its businesses grow. BioCity has big plans for the coming years and Lucy and Stefan are just the right people to help us attain our goals. This is a very exciting time for BioCity and I know that both new Board members are as committed to its success as we all are."
