ISS Awarded Follow-on DARPA Technology Transition Task
After considerable success with initial integration and demonstration of Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) machine learning capabilities, Intelligent Software Solutions has been chosen to fully transition and field the technology. ISS serves as the prime contractor and integrator for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Web Enabled Temporal Analysis System (WebTAS).
(Vocus/PRWEB ) April 30, 2009 -- After considerable success with initial integration and demonstration of Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) machine learning capabilities, Intelligent Software Solutions has been chosen to fully transition and field the technology. ISS serves as the prime contractor and integrator for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Web Enabled Temporal Analysis System (WebTAS). Early in 2008 ISS was initially chosen by DARPA to integrate their Personalized Assistant that Learns (PAL) machine learning technologies into WebTAS. As a result of considerable initial success of the integration and subsequent operator evaluation, ISS has been chosen to fully integrate and transition these technologies into the WebTAS baseline. Work on this effort will be conducted under the AFRL contract, Secure Information Access Analysis and Dissemination. ISS is the prime contractor for SIAAD.
Intelligent Software Solutions
The PAL technologies deliver the capability to learn and automate user actions. This approach enables analysts to "teach" WebTAS very complex analytical tasks, which can be readily re-invoked with the click of a mouse. Further, integration of entity extraction and semantic clustering capabilities empowers the analyst's ability to exploit large volumes of unstructured text and make the resultant extracted information actionable and in context of other available WebTAS data sources. Finally the integration of natural language query allows analysts to pose questions to WebTAS through simple English language phrases which can result in highly complex query actions completely transparently to the user.
The transition effort is expected to continue throughout the coming year and culminate in the release of these technologies as a part of the accredited WebTAS version 4.0 release early next year. According to ISS Vice President of Strategic Planning, Carl Houghton, "We have seen tremendous power in the PAL technologies. Our experience in placing these technologies into the hands of users for evaluation has shown a great desire on their part to integrate these capabilities into their workflows. The technologies will make the incredibly versatile and powerful WebTAS software even more so early next year."
The award will result in the addition of staff at ISS headquarters in Colorado Springs as well as at their office in Rome New York.
