LifeCare® Offers Free Pair of Pandemic Guides to Employers and Individuals Nationwide

This release shares details about two pandemic preparedness guides that LifeCare, Inc. is offering free to employers and to individuals nationwide.

Shelton, CT (PRWEB) April 30, 2009 -- Given the growing concern over the potential for a swine flu epidemic, LifeCare®, Inc. is making two of its normally proprietary pandemic flu guides publicly available free of charge. LifeCare's "Pandemic Flu Planning Checklist for Businesses" contains specific key steps that employers can take immediately to prepare for and minimize the impacts of a flu pandemic; and the company's "Pandemic Flu—Planning for Individuals/Families" offers common sense actions that individuals should take to protect themselves and their families.

Both guides are available on LifeCare's website (www.lifecare.com) or by clicking on the following: Pandemic Flu Planning Checklist for Businesses; Pandemic Flu—Planning for Individuals/Families.

Employers, in particular, are encouraged to download both guides and to share the "Planning for Individuals/Families" guide throughout their organizations in whatever manner they see fit. LifeCare also urges employers to post copies of the "Planning for Individuals/Families" guide in break rooms, cafeterias and other common areas.

"As the CDC is pointing out, most people will not have immunity against this new strain of swine flu," said LifeCare CEO, Peter G. Burki. "So we're making these resources publicly available to ensure that the nation's employers and the workforce at large are better prepared to protect themselves. These LifeCare guides will give them the information they need to decrease their chances of falling victim to pandemic flu."

Burki also recommends that employers formally encourage workers to stay at home if they become ill. "Really, it's in everyone's best interest to have senior management communicate clearly about this," he said. "One of the best ways to protect the entire workforce and avoid spreading illness is by making sure sick workers stay at home."

As there is no vaccination against the new strain of swine influenza, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are recommending that people follow basic practices for flu prevention. These include:

- Wash your hands often (for 15 to 20 seconds) with soap and warm water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don't have a tissue, use your sleeve.
- Make sure you clean your hands each time you cough or sneeze.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth; these are the most common ways of spreading germs.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
