Sydney, NSW (PRWEB) May 1, 2009 -- In the season premiere of MasterChef Australia thousands of applications flooded in from across the country. Students, mums, professional sportsmen, solicitors, nurses and cleaners all applied. Young and old, each came prepared with raw talent and enthusiasm to leave their old life behind and enter the kitchen with one driving aim: To become Australia's first ever MasterChef.
MasterChef is hosted by Sarah Wilson. It is made up of a three person judging panel with two of Australia's most respected chefs and restaurateurs Gary Mehigan and George Calombaris, plus one of the world's most acclaimed food critics, Matt Preston.
Professionals famous for excellence in their fields, the judges have been hand-picked to bring expert knowledge to this life-changing and entertaining series. The Masterchef Experts are putting their reputations on the line, each committed to using their extensive experience to mould the best chef they can.
The Top 50 contestants will do battle in Sydney where a series of challenges, including a furious race around Sydney's Fish Markets, is set to see the cream of the crop rise to the top. The Top 20 will move to the MasterChef Kitchen, better known as MCK.
In the following weeks they will experience eliminations and grueling challenges that will take place in MCK and at locations ranging from top-end restaurants to epic wedding receptions.
Behind the scenes footage of the auditions, MasterChef sneak peeks and full episodes will all be available on MasterChef Video.
Images of contestants cooking up a storm and Behind the Scenes photos of MasterChef experts will be available on www.masterchef.com.au.
The latest MasterChef news will review and provide highlights of what is happening both on the show and Behind the Scenes. This section is updated on a regular basis so viewers can keep on top of what is happening in the kitchen.
Viewers will also be able to share their support and opinion on the MasterChef Forums. There is a range of discussion topics including food and recipes, the host and judges and anything to do with the show. The website will play host to an online community with MasterChef forums so everyone at home can join in and have a say.
MasterChef will also be running several competitions over the course of the series which can all be found on the official MasterChef website.

In a recent episode of MasterChef the contestants went to the food capital of Australia, the last stop on the nationwide tour. One ambitious young cook planned to wow the judges with his mastery of molecular gastronomy, while a vegetarian set out to see if she could make her mark on the cooking world. With the Top 50 selected, the competition moved to Sydney for three days of intense cooking challenges...the first task was back to basics for some onion chopping.
