RYTHM Foundation, the corporate (CSR) heartbeat of the QuestNet, recently donated HKD 40,000 to the Rainbow Project, a non-profit organisation working with autistic children, under the QuestNet Pays Forward (QNPF) initiative.
(PRWEB) May 1, 2009 -- RYTHM Foundation, the corporate (CSR) heartbeat of the QuestNet, recently donated HKD 40,000 to the Rainbow Project, a non-profit organisation working with autistic children, under the QuestNet Pays Forward (QNPF) initiative. The amount was raised through proceeds collected during the recent launch of QShoppe's showcase in Hong Kong as well as through RYTHM Foundation's other fund-raising activities. The QNPF initiative was established as a way of paying forward the benefits that QuestNet has received from the local communities it operates in.
Mr Richard Zinkiewicz, Trustee of RYTHM Foundation donating to the Rainbow Project on behalf of QuestNet Pays Forward
Mr Richard Zinkiewicz, Trustee of RYTHM Foundation who presented the cheque at the Autism Resource Centre said, "It was one of our own long serving executives, who is also a mother to an autistic child, who opened our eyes to the challenges of raising a child with autism in today's world and the need for support. Our credo at RYTHM Foundation is Raise Yourself To Help Mankind, which means that for us to see any change in the world, we first need to change ourselves."
Derived from the acronym Raise Yourself To Help Mankind, the RYTHM Foundation was created to emulate the fundamentals on which the QuestNet has been building upon since being founded in 1998. RYTHM represents the spirit and puts into action one of the primary missions of QuestNet which is, we are in service every day to help individuals discover their potential and achieve their goals, by offering better products and opportunities, and by contributing to the global community through RYTHM.
Whereas, the mission of RYTHM Foundation is to build opportunities and care for those in need. It aims to create decent living conditions and to protect the environment to facilitate sustainability.
RYTHM Foundation's association with the Rainbow Project
RYTHM Foundation began its long-term association with the Rainbow Project in Hong Kong in 2006, when a team from QuestNet, under the auspices of RYTHM Foundation, participated in the Rainbow Trek. This 25-km fundraising walk that started from the famous Hong Kong Peak, helped the Foundation raise the sum of HKD 50,000. The Foundation has also sponsored a special classroom, called the Tung Chung RYTHM-Rainbow classroom for autistic children in the New Territories which required a donation of approximately HKD 600,000. This keen interest in the welfare of children, coupled with the spirit of caring, became the building block for QuestNet's association with the Rainbow Project.
What is the Rainbow Project?
The Rainbow Project is a non-profit, charity organisation established in 1999 by a group of concerned parents and childcare professionals who identified the need for English language education for children with autism. The Autism Society of America defines autism as "a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life and is the result of a neurological disorder that affects the normal functioning of the brain, impacting development in the areas of social interaction and communication skills."
The Rainbow Project aims to provide special educational facilities for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in Hong Kong, and promote awareness of autism in the wider Hong Kong community.
In 2000, Rainbow established its very first classroom at the Hong Kong Academy Primary School. The second classroom officially opened in 2006 at Sunshine Preparatory School (SPS), but was phased out in June 2007 to give way to an 'Early Intervention Classroom', which provides services for children between the ages of three to six. The learning centre, based in Sai Ying Pun, offers Occupational and Speech Therapy programmes, and is run by individuals who are highly skilled in their respective fields.
Why parents send their kids to Rainbow
Rainbow's greatest appeal is its child-centered approach to teaching that helps children adapt to their environment through communication intervention and specific instructional strategies.
Rainbow also encourages parents to contribute towards their children's programmes and get involved in classroom activities. Parents are given the opportunity to be involved in the planning, implementation, and generalisation of their child's goals. In this way, not only are they on track with their child's progress, but they are also there to provide them with much needed support every step of the way.
Raising autistic children can be a very challenging and emotional experience for parents and caregivers. However, with proper education and support systems being available, many families are finally beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
