Law Firm Reaches Out to Individuals in Financial Distress

Bay View Law Group, P.C. Provides Pro Bono Assistance to Financially Distressed Clients Where Bankruptcy is Not an Option

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 4, 2009 -- Bay View Law Group, P.C. a California law firm providing consumer bankruptcy services and bankruptcy alternatives such as debt settlement and credit counseling, is accepting pro bono casework for clients that have experienced exceptional financial hardships.

News ImageOne service offered by Bay View is help for clients who have amassed substantial amounts of unsecured debt which they can no longer afford to repay, but do not want to file for bankruptcy. Bay View's attorneys carefully review each potential client's application which includes their total amount of unsecured debt, monthly budget, gross income, and financial hardship, in order to determine whether or not the individual will be better served by a bankruptcy or a debt settlement program.

During the application review process, attorneys began to notice that some clients endured extraordinary hardships. For example, one individual was previously represented by a non-attorney debt settlement company that was closed by regulators for failure to deliver the promised services. Like many customers of that company, that client lost substantial time and money with no results. Upon reviewing the client's situation, Bay View decided to represent that client on a pro bono basis.

During the first quarter of 2009, Bay View Law Group, P.C. accepted pro bono clients with a total debt load of more than $100,000.

"We have found that for some consumers, bankruptcy is not the best alternative," said James L. Farley, lead attorney for Bay View Law Group, P.C. "There are some who just don't qualify for a bankruptcy, and some are morally or philosophically opposed to bankruptcy. Others cannot benefit from a bankruptcy because they have already filed a bankruptcy in the last few years. And yet, due to additional conditions such as job cutbacks, illness, natural disasters, or other unexpected circumstances, many have reached a point where they can't afford certain things, including legal fees. We elect to accept many of those individuals as pro bono clients. We believe this need will continue for years to come."

"I have found our pro-bono clients to be a joy to work with," explained Bay View paralegal Tanya Scott. "They're grateful for the help but more than that, they become our partners by working with us, carefully following our instructions, and taking great delight in every settlement obtained. The best part is hearing the relief in their voices on the phone when we advise them of the settlements. It's a wonderful feeling to help someone who was feeling despair not so long ago, and now to hear them finding hope and looking forward to a brighter financial future…it's one of the best parts of my job."

Bay View Law Group, P.C. cannot accept all the requests it receives for pro bono legal services, but will be able to accept some needy individuals who simply cannot afford the fees. Those interested in applying can call 888-331-5703, visit the website www.bayviewlaw.com and fill out a standard application for services, or send an email to probono@ldsoa.com.
