Preaching to the Buyer: Tips for Purchasing a Vehicle

Jeremy Franklin's Used Car Network says research, knowing your budget and having an open mind are keys to auto and truck buying satisfaction.

Kansas City, Mo (PRWEB) May 4, 2009 -- Even though the headlines may not show it, this is probably the best time in recent history to buy a car or truck.

However, just as a bear market does not make every stock a good buy, consumers cannot assume every sale offered by a dealer is good for them. "Customers owe it to themselves to make sure they are as knowledgeable as possible about the car and truck buying process," said Jeremy Franklin, owner of Jeremy Franklin's Used Car Network and Jeremy Franklin Suzuki in Kansas City, MO. "Make a plan as you begin the exploration process and make sure you stick to it."

Here are six top tips from Jeremy Franklin on buying a vehicle:

  • Research the vehicle you have in mind via a reputable source, such as Consumer Reports magazine or Edmunds.com, a Web site with reviews, tips and more.
  • Be open-minded on make and model. Consider vehicles in the same class as the one you have in mind, and research prices and consumer ratings of similar vehicles.
  • Know what your budget can afford and stick to it. Don't get talked into "trading up" to more car than you can afford or need because it seems like a bargain. Consider how much it will cost to fuel, insure, and otherwise maintain a larger, more powerful vehicle.
  • If buying a previously owned vehicle, ask a mechanic you trust to inspect it before completing the purchase. Jeremy Franklin's Used Car Network offers a 145-point vehicle inspection on all previously owned vehicles, but not all dealers may provide this service.
  • Research the value of your trade-in at reputable Web sites such as Edmunds and Kelley Blue Book.
  • Read all documents presented to you before signing. This will take time. Don't be rushed. Ask questions about anything you do not understand.
In order to make the process more customer friendly, Jeremy Franklin's Used Car Network has adopted new haggle free, value pricing. Jeremy Franklin's Used Car Network now displays the best possible price on all vehicles upfront. Prices posted on the window sticker and on the Internet and will always match.

"Our number one goal is to offer the right value at the best price and for the buying experience to be extremely positive," said Jeremy Franklin.
