Kitabe.com Expands DRM Free MP3 Audio Book Downloads

Kitabe.com accelerates its move to digital downloads by offering thousands of audio books in DRM Free MP3 format. Several audio book publishers partner with Kitabe.com to offer content.

Detroit, MI (PRWEB) May 2, 2009 -- Kitabe.com an independent retailer of MP3 audio books expands their Digital Rights Management (DRM) free MP3 download category. Downloadable audio books are one of the fastest growing audio book formats according to Audio Publishers Association (APA) and as more consumers buy MP3 players like iPod and Sand Disks, they prefer audio books in DRM free format so they can download to any audio player. Many of the Mp3 players have 8GB to 16GB memory which has plenty of room for thousands of songs and audio books.

Kitabe.com will expand their current library of 2500 titles to 4000 titles with content from several major audio book publishers including Books in Motion, Tantor Media, Random House Audio, Blackstone Audio, Christian Audio and Oasis Audio. Hundreds of new titles are added each month including best selling titles from Christine Feehan, Isaac Asimov and Tim LaHaye . Kitabe.com's most popular download category is Faith Based, both fiction and non-fiction. Christian Books is one of the fastest growing segments of the publishing industry.

As the market place changed, so did Kitabe.com content. Kitabe started as an MP3-CD rental company and since April, 2009 has completely converted to digital downloads. According to the co-founders, moving to digital downloads was the right strategy as postal rate increases reduced profit margins. Digital downloads also give instant access to content and avoid the quality issue of broken CD's, when contents were shipped by first class mail in return envelopes.

Kitabe.com also distinguished themselves from other audiobook downloadable companies by not charging a monthly membership fee. According to Kitabe's management, they didn't see why a member should be forced to pay $10 or $15 a month to download an audio book. Customers buy an audiobook download at a discounted price, only when they need to much like retail bookstores in the country. Kitabe's audio books are offered at a great value with 1000's of titles under $10. A physical MP3-CD retails for about $24.95 and regular CD retails about $39.95 for unabridged version. All audio content is delivered in popular MP3 format, with files zipped to downloadable size folders. Kitabe.com audio files are encoded in high-quality 128 kbps bit rate, twice the audio quality at which the competition (64 kbps) is offering DRM free content.

The audio book market is poised for double digit growth each year according to sales survey by APA and has surpassed the $1 billion mark. Kitabe.com intends to add more content during the remainder of the year and continue to fulfill customer demand.
