A. de C.V, of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, teamed with Connor Sports Court International of Salt Lake City to provide surface and other amenities.

Connor Sport Court International ( is providing the sports surfacing for Cancun's new Poliforum Benito Juarez, an athletic facility that will serve southern Mexico and Central America's growing taste for basketball and other indoor stadium sports.

Poliforum Benito Juarez, located on Boulevard Luis Donaldo S/N a few minutes from the Cancun International Airport, will accommodate about 6,000 thousand fans. It will become the new home of the Pioneros Quintana Roo, the basketball team of the state of Quintana Roo.

Construction on the Poliforum was completed in a record 128 days, said Noemi Trigo, spokesperson for LJV Sport S.A. de C.V., based in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, who was contracted to supply the Connor surfacing for the Poliforum.

About 2,200 square meters of Connor's Neoshok™ surfacing system went into the Poliforum.

The NEOSHOK court was manufactured in Amasa, Michigan, at Connor Sport Court International's mill and constructed on site by the installation personnel of LJV Sport. It is built from Maple Flooring Manufacturing Association (MFMA) Certified Northern Hard Maple, a renewable resource, with the U.S. growing six times more hardwood than is harvested each year. Connor Sport Court is a member of the MFMA and adheres to the strict environmental guidelines of that organization.

"It is a dream come true for the state of Quintana Roo and the Cancunese people," said Governor Felix Gonzalez Cantu. "It is in the forefront of professional sports infrastructure venues with first class areas to practice basketball, soccer and baseball. This is a venue from which we can generate high performance sports championships." The sports arena will also see volleyball, boxing, kickboxing, sportsdancing and musical events taking place under its roof.

"We congratulate the governor of Quintana Roo State for initiating a new era in athletics in Southern Mexico," said Ron Cerny, President and CEO of Connor Sport Court International.

"We know Poliforum Benito Juarez will be pleased with our patented Neoshok resilient hardwood system and its 60% absorption rate. This assures not only a responsive game surface but is also provides a safety factor for the players," Cerny added.

Basketball is Mexico's No. 2 sport, exceeded only by the country's passion for soccer.

LJV's Luis del Valle and Connor's Bill Roever, director of International Wood Sales, put the package together, said Jon Isaacs, Vice President and General Manager of its maple flooring division. LJV also installed four telescopic seating systems, a four-sided scoreboard, portable backstops, volleyball systems and 2,200 seats on the upper level.

"Interestingly, the Poliforum has been constructed of reinforced concrete so it will withstand the hurricanes that sometimes come through the Mayan Peninsula. It will also serve as a shelter in case of natural disaster," added Noemi Trigo of LJV Sport.
