Report after report suggests that America's children are failing in basic reading comprehension. Seeing this alarming trend, entrepreneur and parent, Kris Donohue, started KrissKorner.com - a site that specializes in book resources and imaginative kids' play. Recently, she started a corresponding blog to help and communicate with other parents.

Durham, CA (PRWEB) May 3, 2009 -- There's no denying it: when it comes to basic reading skills, American children are suffering. According to a report titled, "Ready for School," which was conducted by the Peninsula Partnership for Children, Youth and Families in 2004, 55 percent of children in San Mateo, CA had no proficiency or only beginning levels of proficiency in skills related to rhyming words, while only 35 percent were able to recognize all letters of the alphabet. These statistics are staggering, particularly when the United States is considered one of the most affluent nations in the world.
