Doc Searls, Web Visionary, Says on IdeasProject.com that the Internet Frees Consumers and Helps Companies Serve Them

Video interview with Searls featured on IdeasProject, Nokia's new website, which helps users find connections between thought leaders and their "big ideas" about the future of communications

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 5, 2009 -- Doc Searls, Internet visionary, says that while companies have always thought of consumers as captive, they may soon be managing consumers who are willing and able to dictate their own specific product preferences. Instead of the guesswork by which companies attempt to ascertain what consumers want, a more open system of 'free' consumers may bring about better intelligence into the marketplace.

A video interview with Searls discussing the Internet's freeing of the consumer is featured on IdeasProject, a website developed by Nokia. IdeasProject is an online "information space" that provides a new way to interact with thought leaders and their big ideas about the future of connected communications. For more on Searls's big idea, visit:

"The Internet sets customers free, and free customers are far more capable of providing intelligence to companies than captive ones," said Searls. "Current CRM systems are good for captive customers but limit the intelligence companies can gather from them. The Internet, however, has unleashed the 'free' customer, who can approach companies with far more intelligence, enabling companies to do better in the marketplace."

"Vendors are taking advantage of the Internet's global reach," said Valerie Buckingham, Director of Technology Marketing, Nokia. "Searls points out how consumers today can provide immediate feedback to vendors on the quality of their products and the sales transaction itself. We look forward to featuring more of Searl's provocative thoughts about the Internet's impact on the consumer/vendor relationship on IdeasProject."

Over the next month, editors from the IdeasProject are featuring their favorite ideas as submitted by the public and sending a Nokia N95 to the 'Big Thinker' who contributed. Share and submit your 'Big Idea' with the world by visiting http://master.ideasproject.com/userideasubmit.webui
