If the staff of High Peaks Animal Hospital marked the anniversary of its founding in dog years, John D. Cogar, D.V.M., would be celebrating 140 years serving pets and pet owners in the Tri-Lakes Region. But even when measured in human years, the hospital’s 20th anniversary is truly a moment to celebrate.

Twenty years ago this month, Dr. Cogar opened the practice that is now located at 1087 Route 86 and later expanded with a second location on Route 11 in North Bangor. High Peaks Animal Hospital’s anniversary coincides with National Pet Week, which is celebrated May 3-9. “This week is a great time for all of us to celebrate the special bond with our pets and marvel at the advances made in medical care for our four-legged friends over the past 20 years,” he said.

Today, High Peaks Animal Hospital features a surgery suite, sophisticated ex-ray technology, modern blood testing and analysis equipment, and full emergency services that were not available 20 years ago. “The strides made in diagnostic technology as well as treatment protocols are truly remarkable,” Dr. Cogar said.

Dr. Cogar is excited about the future. “Every day we are seeing earlier diagnostic techniques and improved treatment plans which translates into healthier pets and an improved quality of life,” he said.
