Miller and Smith Gives HomeAid a Hundred Helping Hands

Miller and Smith, known for creating innovative new home communities throughout the Washington region, recently teamed up with HomeAid Northern Virginia to help renovate Community Touch Victory Transitional Housing, a homeless shelter in Bealeton, Virginia.

McLean, VA (PRWEB) May 8, 2009 -- Miller and Smith, known for creating innovative new home communities throughout the Washington region, recently teamed up with HomeAid Northern Virginia to help renovate Community Touch Victory Transitional Housing, a homeless shelter in Bealeton, Virginia.

Community Touch offers support to the homeless, hungry and deprived in Fauquier County and surrounding counties. Victory Transitional is a one-year program that offers housing to homeless men, women and children with a broad range of needs. The program helps individuals achieve and sustain a higher quality of life through educational and job training opportunities. The program provides an opportunity for homeless individuals to save money for a future residence and to gain information and access to services they need.

HomeAid Northern Virginia is a chapter of HomeAid America, one of the nation's leading non-profit providers of housing for homeless people. It spearheaded the "mini extreme makeover" and Miller and Smith answered the call for help, providing building and landscaping expertise, connections to generous subcontractors, and a lot of heavy lifting.

A team of over 100 Miller and Smith employees and subcontractors arrived at the shelter, rolled up their sleeves, and got to work repairing, renovating, landscaping, and generally making the shelter a safer place to be.

Tyrone Champion, Director of Community Touch, the organization that runs the shelter, summed up the effort to the Fauquier Times-Democrat. "HomeAid came out and looked at the project, and Miller and Smith came out and looked at it, talked with us about what we needed, and all of a sudden they just showed up like ants," said Tyrone with a laugh. "This week has really been awesome."

In addition to working on the shelter itself, the Miller and Smith team repaired and improved an adjacent food pantry and thrift store.

"Community outreach has always been an important part of our culture," said Lauri Payson, Vice President of Marketing, Miller and Smith. "It's really gratifying to be part of organizations like HomeAid Northern Virginia and Victory Transitional Housing that make a difference in people's lives. I'd like to thank our many subcontractors who also donated their time and materials in support of the effort."

Miller and Smith is the third largest private homebuilder in the Washington Metropolitan area. Founded in 1964, it has built over 5,000 single family homes, 8,000 townhomes and 2,000 condominiums, and developed over 12,000 homesites in 87 communities throughout Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.
