UK Homes Save Money On Second Hand Contents
Britain is becoming a nation of second hand buyers with 70% now purchasing second hand goods for their home, according to a survey of 2,000 Swinton home insurance customers.
Manchester, UK (PRWEB) May 11, 2009 -- Britain is becoming a nation of second hand buyers with 70% now purchasing second hand goods for their home, according to a survey of 2,000 Swinton home insurance customers.
As times get tough in the current recession, the stigma attached to buying second hand items appears to be disappearing. Car boot sales, charity shops and online internet auction sites such as ebay, were the main places that customers admitted hunting for bargains for their home. Only 7% said they were too embarrassed to admit that they buy second hand items.
The top five most popular items bought second hand for UK Homes according to the survey were:
1. Furniture (51%)
2. Electrical Items (17%)
3. Crockery (10%)
4. Kitchen Appliances (7%)
5. Garden Furniture (6%)
Steve Chelton, Insurer Development Manager from Swinton, the UK's leading high street home insurance retailer, said: "Second hand purchases from internet sites such as eBay are becoming increasingly popular in UK homes.
"Swinton wants to remind homeowners that most insurers offer a 'new for old' replacement cover. This means that when working out the value of home contents, the replacement value of second-hand items needs to be carefully calculated instead of focusing on the original amount paid."
