Global Intelligence Alliance Group (GIA), a global strategic market intelligence and advisory company, launches "World Class Market Intelligence - From Firefighters to Futurists", a GIA Best Practices White Paper designed to address key concerns amongst the global Market Intelligence (MI) community.

It showcases the GIA World Class MI Framework, which features the key success factors of MI development, and five levels of MI organizational maturity, ranging from 'Firefighters' (Level 1, the beginners) to 'Futurists' (Level 5, the most advanced organizations).

In GIA's Global Market Intelligence Survey conducted amongst 439 MI professionals across five continents in 2008, it was found that:

1. Most MI operations around the world are currently at the 'Intermediate' level (ie. Level 3 in the GIA Roadmap to World-Class MI framework)
2. 45% of the respondents without MI operations doubted the quality of decision-making in their organizations, while 30% felt the same in companies with systematic MI activities
3. The ultimate challenge for MI professionals is to fill in the information gaps in decision-making processes

"The GIA World Class MI Framework was developed to help organizations achieve three key benefits from a systematic intelligence operation. They are better and faster decisions, time and cost savings, as well as organizational learning and new ideas. Most organizations find it easiest to first build up 'technical' MI capabilities and often struggle to excel in the 'softer' success factors, such as MI organization and MI culture. This is often what differentiates the 'Firefighters' from the 'Futurists'," said Mr. Hans Hedin, Vice President Business Development at GIA.
