Specialty chemicals manufacturers are constantly developing new materials for use in advanced electronic applications, biomedical devices, adhesives and other technically challenging projects. The cooperation of different research concentrations and chemical expertise is arguably the most efficient path to creating successful solutions for these application needs. The integration of Monomer-Polymer and Dajac Labs and Silar Labs is an example of this synergistic cooperation.
Monomer-Polymer and Dajac ("MPD") has undertaken specialty monomer and polymer research for over 50 years, resulting in an extensive datacenter of highly technical monomers and related polymers and copolymers. MPD specialties include acrylates, methacrylates, fluorinated molecules, silanes and vinyl monomers, in addition to the corresponding polymers and copolymers. With extensive production capabilities, from kilo lab to multi-ton, MPD's specialty monomers and polymer chemistries are broadly used, serving many markets including coatings, adhesives, medical devices, dental resins, water treatment, academic and industrial R&D.
The Silar production facilities in Acme, NC and Scotia, NY are primarily engaged in the manufacture of organosilanes, silicones and adhesion promoters for use in pharmaceutical, biomedical devices, electronics, industrial and R&D markets. Silar's manufacturing facilities are ISO 9002 certified and capable of producing gram and kilo-lab scale through multi-ton at the Acme facility. The technical staff is lead by a team of experienced chemists dedicated to producing the highest quality materials using cost-effective routes and technologies.
"The closing of this transaction strongly positions MPD for the future by combining two complementary chemistries, technical capabilities and strong market channels. Specifically, the ability for Monomer-Polymer and Silar to undertake interdisciplinary R&D and production with specialty monomers and silanes will strengthen the organization's position in multiple, key markets in which we have seen sustained growth," said MPD CEO, Stephen Bell.
