On the instructions of The Shetland Norse Preserving Company Ltd, Pro Auction will offer for sale by tender a complete process and canning line for packing fillets of herring, mackerel and salmon in a range of sauces with a capacity 25,000 cans per 8 hour shift.
Fish canning is a method for industrial processing of raw fish that enables to keep the final product suitable for consumption at ambient temperatures over a longer period of time than any other commercial fish processing would, this facilitates and consequently makes less expensive not only storage but also transport and distribution
The line was installed for a specific project, with the result that the line and the sauce kitchen are virtually unused. The processing and canning line designed and installed by Cabinplant A/S a world leading provider of tailor-made processing solutions for the food industry with main focus areas are within fish, shellfish, fruit, vegetables, berries and convenience foods. Cabinplant's solutions for the fish industry cover all species and include reception of raw material, sorting and grading, cleaning, filleting, cooking and cooling, weighing and packing. We also have an extensive know-how within freezing and thawing. Whilst the line is designed for packing fish in Dingley, Hansa, and Club cans, it could be easily adapted for other types of product.
The canning line consists of a two-trolley defrosting unit for block frozen fish fillets, cooking and cooling tunnel with a capacity of 500 kg/h. The packing section consists of one can separator / de-stacker, operator packing belt, check weighing / return system, sauce pre-filling system, sauce topping-up system, Trio CM2 crimper machine set for Hansa, Club and Dingley cans, however the line can be adapted to suit other products. The line continues to the can washing system prior to the continuous retort basket filling section. The line is complete with a sauce kitchen for heating, mixing, chilling, storing and pumping a variety of sauces, the canning line was installed by Cabinplant A/S, and has only been in use for a few months.
Fish canning is a sophisticated and relatively expensive method of commercial fish processing. The cost of fish canning depends on many factors such as, regular supply of reasonably priced raw material throughout a substantial part of the year, availability and cost of relatively sophisticated processing and packaging material, availability, skill and cost of labour. The sale of the equipment is therefore expected to generate interest from both existing canneries and new entrants to the market, who can make a significant saving in purchasing the line by tender sale.
