Ark of the Covenant Hidden in Australia?

The Ark of the Covenant - or an artefact believed by many to be that sacred relic - was captured by British imperial forces in Ethiopia in 1868, and hidden in Australia between March 1869 and the early 1950s. Sydney, New South Wales (PRWEB) May 13, 2009 -- The Ark of the Covenant - or an artefact believed by many to be that sacred relic - was captured by British imperial forces in Ethiopia in 1868, and hidden in Australia between March 1869 and the early 1950s. That's the startling claim made in a new book, an international mystery thriller called The Lion and the Covenant, recently released on Amazon.com.

Background material in the controversial book (by Sydney writer B. Victor Preston) reveals previously unsuspected links between a series of historical events in the 1860's and the people involved in them. The events cited include the gathering together of the cultural and religious treasures of Ethiopia by the Emperor Theodore at his mountain fortress of Magdala; excavations beneath Temple Mount in Jerusalem by a party of British Royal Engineers led by Lieutenant (later General Sir) Charles Warren; and three visits to Australia between 1867 and 1870 by Queen Victoria's second son Prince Alfred, the first British royal to visit the Antipodean colonies.

The British invasion of Ethiopia in 1868 culminated in the storming and looting of the fortress of Magdala and the suicide of Emperor Theodore. These events are shown in the book to be connected to a circle of mostly aristocratic, imperially-minded British Freemasons surrounding the royal family of Queen Victoria. Those same persons were also responsible for excavations beneath Temple Mount the previous year and the decision to send the Prince to Australia, according to information revealed in the novel.

The book's pages also depict confirmatory evidence of an "Ark intrigue" existing in the Australian cities of Sydney, Melbourne and Hobart, and the novel even identifies a number of buildings in the three cities where the presumed Ark may have been held at different times. Much of the plot of the book follows two young Sydney University students across three continents, as they rediscover clues concealed for the past 140 years.

The Lion and the Covenant also discloses the author's take on what finally happened to the Ethiopian "Ark artefact", and where it is now. In addition the book sets out a new theory, or rather set of hypotheses, to explain what caused the sudden disappearance of the original Ark from the Biblical narrative, and where it may have been in the long ages since.

The author's last word? "The Lion and the Covenant is presented as fiction, so it's intended to be an absorbing read," says B. Victor Preston. "I hope people really enjoy it in addition to satisfying their curiosity. It's a bit of a modern romance as well as a mystery thriller, actually. However I'd stress that it's not for the closed-minded, as some people may be a little bit shocked by some of the contents."

Note: Website contains significant further material including historical facts page, reproducible author interview, usable photographs and information on Freemasonry.
