Drive Healthcare Transformation - Attend Government Health IT Conference & Exhibition

Health IT can help transform the US healthcare system, one with expenditures of more than $2 trillion and 16 percent of the GDP, according to the National Center for Health Statistics

Chicago, IL (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 12, 2009 -- New policies, people and programs highlight the administration’s current emphasis on healthcare transformation and the focus of the upcoming 2009 Government Health IT Conference & Exhibition. With the theme of Healthcare Transformation through Government Health IT, this conference, now presented by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, returns to the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center on June 4-5 in Washington, DC.

The Government Health IT Conference convenes just three weeks after six major industry groups met with the President on May 11 to discuss their plans for healthcare reform. This is one of many gatherings in recent months at the White House where healthcare professionals and consumers have presented their perspective on how healthcare must adapt to reduce costs and provide coverage for all Americans.

“With the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, healthcare reform demands the commitment and engagement of the entire industry, including a defined role for the federal government as noted in this legislation," said H. Stephen Lieber, CAE, HIMSS president/CEO. “The Government Health IT Conference & Exhibition, with more than 15 education sessions, brings together employees of the federal government and healthcare leaders to discuss, debate and deliberate critical topics important to revitalizing healthcare delivery.“

Each day includes a keynote session and plenary panel. Panel members will offer their perspective on Sharing Information Across Government Agencies: An Update (June 4) and Realities of Interoperability in a Healthcare Setting: From Policy to Practice (June 5). Panel members and keynote speakers are now being confirmed.

The two-day conference offers three tracks:

  • Policy and Strategy: From Legislation to Action
  • Demonstrating the Value of Interoperability
  • Industry Solutions (Day one only)

On the policy side, attendees can learn more about the impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in separate sessions that focus on the legislation and privacy and security, health IT work force, standards, and health IT policy. Interoperability topics include the National Health Information Network, virtual collaboration, personalized medicine, public health and community health. And the exhibit hall will be open on June 4 from 11 am-5 pm EDT.

Tailored to both the government and business health IT communities, the conference registration includes several options, such as free registration for government employees (confirmed with their government identification card) on the opening day of June 4. Special registration rates for the full conference and one-day registration (June 4) also are available for government and nonprofit attendees. Visit the Government Health IT Conference & Exhibition online for updated information and to register.
