Canton, OH (PRWEB) May 12, 2009 -- Fieldcrest Montessori School has been chosen to become the Lab School of The Montessori Foundation. Located on the historic Hoover Family Estate, Fieldcrest provides exceptional educational opportunities for children from six weeks of age through high school.

Fieldcrest is a unique independent school in a unique setting. Its 50 acre campus and stately buildings and barns are reminiscent of the legacy of our community's past. The school's innovative Montessori program represents a blend of a school that is particularly family friendly, a college preparatory curriculum with an emphasis on international studies, and a culture of collaborative learning. The school has announced its plans to develop a Montessori-based International Baccalaureate Program at the high school level.

Fieldcrest consciously nurtures students' curiosity, creativity, and imagination. It seeks to inspire a passion for learning, a sense of independence and self-motivation, strong values, a global perspective, and a life-long tradition of community service.

As The Lab School of The Montessori Foundation, Fieldcrest will develop into an international center through the use of state-of-the-art internet communications technology. Elementary and secondary students will take lessons not only from their own teachers on campus, but from great teachers at Montessori centers around the world. They will learn to collaborate on projects and problem solving with fellow Montessori students who attend sister Montessori schools across the USA and abroad. As a Lab School, Fieldcrest will reflect Montessori's tradition of experiential hands on learning with innovative educational approaches that reflect the advances and challenges of the 21st century.

Leadership of the school will be entrusted to the staff of the internationally recognized Montessori Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with offices outside of Sarasota, Florida, that promotes and supports the spread of Montessori schools worldwide. The Montessori Foundation works with more than 7,000 schools in the United States and around the world.

The Foundation publishes Tomorrow's Childmagazine, a magazine for Montessori parents, provides leadership workshops for Montessori administrators, and hosts international conferences for Montessori teachers, administrators, and parents. The International Montessori Council, the Foundation's membership organization, is an accrediting organization for Montessori schools around the world and publishes Montessori Leadership Magazine.

Daniel Robinson Howe, III, has been appointed Headmaster. A former staff member of The Montessori Foundation, "Robin" was a Montessori student from the age of two through the eighth grade. A graduate of Dickinson College, he holds dual Bachelor degrees in Religion and Spanish. He holds a Master's Degree in Bioethics from the University of South Florida and is a certified Montessori educator. He has taught in Primary, Elementary, and Secondary Montessori classrooms in both the public and private sector.

Tim Seldin, President of The Montessori Foundation, will serve as CEO. Tim was Headmaster of The Barrie School (a college-preparatory Montessori school with more than 500 students for toddlers through high school) in Silver Spring, MD for 25 years. He was also Founder of The Institute for Advanced Montessori Studies and recently founded The Center for Guided Montessori Studies, the first international distance-learning Montessori teacher-training program. He is author of The World in the Palm of Her Hand, How to Raise an Amazing Child: The Montessori Way, co-author of The Montessori Way, and Celebrations of Life. He is an international Montessori consultant and keynote speaker at educational conferences around the world.

Paul Epstein, Ph.D., has been appointed Head of the Upper School. Paul is recognized as one of the world's experts on the creation and implementation of Upper School Montessori programs. He has years of experience in both public and private Montessori schools and co-authored The Montessori Way with Tim Seldin. He is an international speaker, teacher trainer, and consultant.

The school will celebrate its new beginning with a hot-air balloon launch on Tuesday, May 19th at 5:30 pm.

Fieldcrest Montessori School was founded in 2006 under the auspices of The Sally Morse Dale Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. It is non-sectarian, Montessori college-preparatory school for students in infancy through high school. For more information, please visit the school's website at www.fieldrestofnc.org.
