Yahoo!, Publicis, Nokia, Google...Discuss Future Location Data and Services Business Models

London, UK (PRWEB) May 15, 2009 -- The opportunity for location-enhanced applications such as local search, local social networks and people tracking is set to rise significantly, with more than $4 billion worth of these apps being sold in 2013. (Strategy Analytics)

The MetaPlaces 09 conference in San Jose on 22 - 23 September will bring together the location business ecosystem to discuss the solutions to capitalising on this new trend.

The event has been designed around the feedback and needs of the location-based service providers. "Location is everywhere and location-enhanced services are multiplying at an incredible pace," said Fraser Campbell, CEO of Wcities, adding that the key challenge is to maintain the balance between platforms, convenience and personalisation. "The companies that facilitate the interactions between the desktop and the mobile whilst connecting people, personalising their experience and making it effortless, will be of great value to the end consumer."

Another difficulty, adds Sylvain Grande, senior manager of business development at Nokia SoLo, is to ensure access to validated POI information.

Social services are exploding, and location is now a crucial element in providing context-based services. These services not only generate great value, but also vast quantities of social data ready to be mined once privacy issues are resolved.

New open platforms, easier access to map data and power shifts in the ecosystem are also making it essential to renew partner networks continuously.

The MetaPlaces 09 conference will provide a place for the location-based/enhanced services and platforms providers, content publishers, ad enablers, wireless carriers and device manufacturers to meet, conduct business and discuss solutions to the key issues in the LBS world.

To guide the discussion and provide delegates with expert insight, MetaPlaces 09 will feature an inspiring line-up of speakers, including thought leaders from Google, Nokia, Yahoo! Geo, OpenStreetMaps, Palm, Loopt, Publicis and many more…

Tyler Bell, head of product at Yahoo! Geo, said of the timing and the focus of the MetaPlaces 09 event: "I'm delighted to see this event focuses on an holistic location aware experience and business. The future of geo technologies has very much outgrown its origins in the traditional automotive sector."
