Speed Camera Boss Caught Speeding
Chief Executive of Serco's government division which supplies Gatso speed cameras, has just been banned from driving for speeding at nearly 103mph.
Flint, United Kingdom (PRWEB) May 15, 2009 -- Staveley Head, one of the country's leading van insurance providers, has highlighted an incident that will bring a smile to the faces of all motorists.
A spokesman for Staveley Head said, "In a delicious irony Tom Riall, the Chief Executive of Serco's government division which supplies Gatso speed cameras, has just been banned from driving for speeding at nearly 103mph."
The offence was committed on the 4th January on the A14, a road which has one of the highest accident rates in the country. At Sudbury Magistrates Court in Suffolk Mr Riall pleaded guilty to the charge and was given six penalty points with a further seven points for two previous offences. The total took him over the twelve points needed for a six months ban.
Mr Riall told the Court that a ban would cause him extreme hardship because he would have to use savings set aside for his children's school fees to employ drivers to take him to meetings, but Magistrates dismissed the £150,000 a year Chief Executive's claim. The hearing was NOT held in camera.
Mr Riall's company, Serco, operates 5000 of the country's 8000 Gatso speed cameras and led the Government backed campaign Safe Drive Stay Alive in 2008. The company also spearheaded a campaign highlighting the "direct consequences of reckless and dangerous driving."
Road safety groups have demanded he resign for his "extraordinarily reckless" act. David Williams of the Guild of Experienced Motorista said "He should consider his position."
If you want further information about this subject, or want to compare van insurance, or simply want a quote Staveley Head will be pleased to assist.
