Clearly Contacts Discovers Why Online Retail Is Becoming Increasingly Popular

Clearly Contacts executives have noticed a shift happening in industrialised nations away from traditional, brick and mortar retail outlets, for an ever increasing list of products, towards online purchasing.

Vancouver, British Columbia (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 13, 2009 -- Clearly Contacts (www.clearlycontacts.ca) executives have noticed a shift happening in industrialised nations away from traditional, brick and mortar retail outlets, for an ever increasing list of products, towards online purchasing. Marketing strategists and internet analysts are working overtime to fully understand what is driving this shift, where the next surge in buying will take place and what keeps customers coming back to their favourite online merchants.

It has become quite clear that online retailers have accomplished what catalogues and traditional retailers could not - double digit increases in sales. Last year combined sales for the Top 500 online retailers grew by 11.7% according to InternetRetailer.com. The only consensus of opinion about traditional retail sales for the same period is that they were down across the board.

There are items that simply cannot be sold online. Gasoline, the most volatile of products in the government's retail analysis computations, is one. But for most consumer items, the internet is rapidly becoming the venue of choice for an increasing number of shoppers.

Back a decade or so ago during the creation and rise of today's common household internet companies like Amazon, EBay and others, the main driving factors putting dollars online were convenience and selection. But it didn't take long before competition set in and, as with traditional businesses, sales began to peak at a lot of the newer companies, advertising budgets failed to entice new buyers and it didn't take long before the weaker companies began to fail and disappear. Like any business cycle, what happened next was that the remaining companies began looking for new ways to entice new customers to spur growth.

Stronger companies began buying the weaker ones, expanding their product lines and increasing their online presence in the process. In a short time online retailers realised that what they needed to do to attract new customers was to use the time honoured traditions established by early businesses long before the internet entered the scene. Those basics - price, quality, delivery and outstanding customer service - became the mainstays of the next generation of online retailers and that's exactly how Clearly Contacts was created.

Recognising from the beginning that traditional retail sellers of eyewear were making outrageous profits, company co-founders, Roger Hardy and his sister Michaela Tokarski, set out in 2000 to create a company that could literally save the world from overpriced vision care. "We discovered that traditional retail sellers of eyewear were marking up products at obscene rates" says Co-Founder and CEO Roger Hardy. "We decided to create a model that allowed us to grow while still offering state of the art quality at reasonable prices."

Clearly Contacts was a success from the outset and has grown into Canada's largest online optical store by providing those good business basics from day one - a quality product at a fair price, an ever expanding selection, free shipping and liberal payment terms. This business model plus a dedication to community outreach and outside of the box marketing strategies have propelled Clearly Contacts to the forefront of the vision enhancement industry and keeps their customers coming back time and time again for more.

It seems that after all the technological innovation very little has really changed. With the exception of "Location, location, location!" the basic business models of our great grandfathers still work in today's fast changing internet based economy. Perhaps online they work even a little bit better.
