CY2008-2009 Xtal & Oscillator Market Report Released -- The Ups and Downs of the Xtal and Oscillator Market Forecast for 2009 has Revenues at Levels Close to 2004

Consulting Services & Associates (CS&A) has released its latest report on the Xtal and oscillator market for CY2008-2009, which shows an overall market decline of 5% in 2008 and they expect to see it decline another 16.5% in 2009.

Cupertino, CA (PRWEB) May 15, 2009 -- Consulting Services & Associates (CS&A) has released its latest report on the Xtal and oscillator market, which shows an overall market decline of 5% in 2008 and they expect to see it decline another 16.5% in 2009.

Total Xtal and oscillator revenue declined 5% in 2008 to $3.4 billion. While unit volume actually increased by almost 3%, Average Selling Price (ASP) declines took revenue down. The market will continue to decline in 2009 given the economic decline, with total revenue sinking to $2.8 billion, a level last seen in 2004. The market is estimated to turn to double digit growth in 2010 and maintain good levels through 2012 however; revenue will only reach $3.3 billion, which is still lower than 2007 levels.

There are still factors that call for increased Xtal and Oscillator content in applications, but it is the decreased volume of electronic equipment that is affecting the overall volume of Xtals and oscillators shipped, just as it is affecting all other semiconductor and electronic component categories. The decreased demand is also putting pressure on $ASPs, with some product categories set to experience close to 10% $ASP erosion in 2009, before settling out to more typical erosion in 2010.

Epson Toyocom grew its lead in the market, capturing almost 20% of the total available market. The Taiwanese suppliers, TXC and Hosonic, continue to gain share, with TXC overtaking Vectron to be in the top 5.

The SiMEMS resonator startups are still in business. While Discera has not added much to its product portfolio, SiTime has added a number of new products from low jitter XOs, to ultra-thin XOs, to spread spectrum XOs. Even so, SiTime and Discera are still struggling with their value add, and how their products are better or cheaper than the establish quartz products. The products being released are still primarily 'me too' products, and neither company has released a 'killer' product that can show the market the SiMEMS resonator technology really does have a leg upon the legacy quartz technology. Don't count out Silicon Clocks either -- recent happenings indicate measurable progress in their CMEMS development.

CS&A's findings are available in its CY2008-2009 Crystal & Oscillator report. The report provides a detailed look at the Crystal and Oscillator market providing TAM estimates, forecasts for all major product categories, in addition to supplier market shares and summary dossiers. CS &A utilizes a unique Top Down/Bottoms up methodology so as to provide the most accurate and credible view of the numbers, trends, suppliers, technology, products and position. This year's report features the inclusion of a white paper focused on Jitter and phase noise analysis and specifications -- useful for reference and training to the timing market.

The full report is available for $3,250.00USD, and for enterprise licensees, includes updates for Q2, Q3 and Q4 of the calendar year. No annual membership or subscription fees are required.
