Ivy Tech Community College Semester Enrollment Exceeds 100,000 for First Time
College announces formation of enrollment study committee.
Indianapolis, IN (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 14, 2009 -- With the close of the spring semester last week Ivy Tech Community College's end of term enrollment figures show that 100,842 students attended the community college. This marks the first-time in school history that headcount numbers exceeded 100,000 for a given semester.
The total enrollment is 19.1 percent higher than end of term spring 2008 numbers. The community college saw an additional 16,158 students enrolled this spring as compared to last spring, the largest one semester increase ever at Ivy Tech. Over the last six spring semesters Ivy Tech has seen its enrollment increase by 34,466 students - a bump of 52 percent since 2003.
The community college has also announced the formation of an enrollment study committee. The committee will be co-chaired by Senior Vice President/Provost Don Doucette and Bloomington campus Chancellor John Whikehart. In light of continued projected growth for the upcoming summer and fall terms, along with state budget forecast limitations, the committee will study how to continue to ensure high quality instruction for the growing number of students attending the community college and will report its findings in July.
Summer semester starts May 26 at Ivy Tech and the fall term begins August 24. Registration for both semesters is on-going at all campuses around the state.
"Our committee will report its findings and make recommendations in July to ensure that our growth does not affect the quality of the experience of our students in a negative way," Doucette said. "Our current students and many new students are registering for fall classes already and we encourage students to meet with their advisors and take the steps to register early for fall courses."
Last fall Ivy Tech enrolled 87,129 students experiencing 10.6 percent growth over fall of 2007.
Ivy Tech Community College is the state's largest public post-secondary institution and the nation's largest singly-accredited statewide community college systems with more than 120,000 students enrolled annually." It serves as the state's engine of workforce development, offering affordable degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana."
