Officegossip.com Launches Providing Virtual Water Cooler
Online gossip sites have for years focused almost exclusively on the not-so-relevant world of celebrities... Officegossip.com seeks to offer regular workers an outlet and portal into what's happening in the halls of where they spend a large part of their lives: the office.
Reston, VA (PRWEB) May 14, 2009 -- Today marks the official launch of Officegossip.com, giving workers everywhere a free destination to find out what's really going on inside the halls of companies across the country and offer their own opinions.
"This is a convenient new aggregation of a variety of sources from across the Web, each focusing on different aspects of office life: from insider scoop, office politics, opinions, hallway buzz, layoff talk, job resources, interoffice videos and lots more," said Rick Robinson, head of Sonicgleek Productions, creator of the site. "This is not really a place for anonymous sniping but rather a real-time compendium of what people inside companies, and those outside-looking-in, are saying about a host of relevant topics."
Robinson pointed out a chief goal is to entertain, certainly, but also provide useful resources for job hunters and switchers.
For years Websites, TV shows and Tabloids have thrived on celebrity gossip and celebrity culture. But none has looked at what really matters to people -- their workplace, and to what's going on around them every day, Robinson noted, and what people are saying about it all.
"Social media have obviously gone mainstream and are following the path of offline human nature, being used in not unsurprising ways -- gossiping about the place most people spend a large part of their lives: the office," Robinson said. "Officegossip.com pulls a lot of that social media into a convenient package."
Officegossip.com aggregates from a variety of sources including Twitter, company blogs, salary sites, corporate insider sites and its own columnist, who curates the service.
Officegossip.com is part of the Sonicgleek Productions network of sites including Twitchamp.com and others to come. Robinson is a former AOL Social Products VP.
