Austin, TX (PRWEB) May 16, 2009
In celebration of the completion of Girlstart's successful three-year high school program, Project IT (information technology) Girl, participants will present final projects and be honored in a graduation event at Austin City Hall on Friday, May 22, 2009.
In the last semester of the program, IT Girls have completed their capstone project - technology internships at local companies. They will present their internship projects to the community at a ceremony honoring their hard work and achievements. The internship presentations will begin at 6 p.m. and the official ceremony and reception will follow at 7:30 p.m.
Program Manager Zakiyyah Kareem says the program has taught the girls to set challenging goals for themselves. "This program has been the catalyst for many of our participants to seriously consider careers in technology. What they learned in Project IT Girl is that that they are capable and ready to take on big challenges," Kareem said. "We're so proud of them."
Over the last three years, Project IT Girl (http://www.girlstart.org/itgirl/) has challenged high school girls to use technology to change the world around them. Since their sophomore year, the IT Girls have researched, filmed and edited powerful public service announcements; successfully designed, developed and programmed educational games for children around the world to learn and play; and produced events in the virtual world of Second Life.
