Charleston, SC (PRWEB) May 16, 2009 -- On August 31, 1949, Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of an Armed Forces Day to celebrate the unification of all service branches under one department; The Department of Defense. The first Armed Forces Day was on May 20, 1950 and was celebrated with parades, air shows and receptions. On that day, 10,000 U.S. troops, veterans and cadets honorably marched in front of the President in Washington, D.C.

Today, www.VetFriends.com -- an online community reuniting and supporting U.S. veterans & military -- encourages all to thank and honor our U.S. military and veterans on Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, and all year long. In celebration of Armed Forces Day, VetFriends will be taking up to 50% off all Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and Coast Guard pride items. Moreover, visitors are invited to utilize promo code: FD for an additional 15% off all pride items.

To show appreciation for our veterans and military personnel of all branches, U.S. military caps, shirts, collectibles, patches, stickers and many other items will be available online at www.vetfriends.com/catalog from 10-50% off plus the promotional gift code.

VetFriends.com founder and U.S. veteran, D.F. Sutcliffe states: "Each and every day the entire VetFriends.com team takes time to express our thanks, appreciation and honor toward our military heroes -- whether it be through helping people reunite, providing information and support, or simply saying "Thank You." We are here for our veterans and military."
