Altruism Can Make You Healthy, Wealthy And Happy
Selfishness -- better known today as narcissism -- has ruined our economic system; but caring about others will build a stronger, greater one.
Panama, Panama (PRWEB) May 18, 2009 -- Denouncing the perils of selfishness is not a new message. But avoiding it has never been directly linked to attaining health, wealth and happiness; up to now, that is. Because this is the simple yet compelling message eloquently laid out in the new book Healthy, Wealthy & Happy; Now & Forever.
A light bulb went on in author Julie Duncan-Archibold's brain when her husband introduced her to a direct-marketing health company. She, immediately, thought to herself: "This marketing system is so simple and effective that if applied appropriately to everyday life, everyone would end up being healthy, wealthy and happy". Following is the simple system outlined in 3 steps:
1- Use the products to get good results and then teach others about the benefits they can also attain. (Healthy)
2- Improve your financial status by helping many others improve theirs. (Wealthy)
3- Always have an "up" happy attitude that you may pass it on to others. (Happy)
According to Archibold, this pattern clearly proves that success is attained as a person effectively extends him/herself to another. And the more people become successful under that person's "influence", the more successful the benefactor becomes. Put in simpler terms: success is obtained by adding value to other people's lives.
Archibold gets very passionate as she talks about the link between altruism and success:
"It is amazing to observe this pattern in all Nature; which is how we end up with phrases like 'the more you give, the more you receive'. And actually the more you give, the happier you become; and the happier you become, the healthier you will be. How comes a person who donates blood produces more blood? or the more a mother breastfeeds, the more milk she produces? Because nature gives more, to the person who is willing to share what he has; not to the one who's holding on to, or wasting her gifts."
"The opposite is also true. That is how, ironically, the more houses we bought and the more loans that were given out with the hopes of greedy profit, brought about anything but prosperity. As we have been able to witness in our world's present crisis, when we are just bent on looking out for ourselves, seeking only selfish gain, we end up with emptiness, brokenness and debt."
Her tone quickly lightens up, as she talks about the sub-theme of her captivating book: that this is a time of opportunity for ordinary people to turn their lives around.
"Nevertheless," she says enthusiastically, "we are living in a time of unprecedented opportunity if we are willing to pull ourselves by our bootstraps. And the truth is, maybe a recession can become a great opportunity; perhaps the only opportunity that will force us to reorganize our lives and make them more proactive, efficient and great."
