Play Outdoors Sponsor of Local Student Watershed Summit

Play Outdoors and the Healthy Waters Institute's Student Stewardship Program recognize local students' presentations of observation and analysis of area watershed.

Bend, Ore. (PRWEB) May 19, 2009 -- Play Outdoors, a local company focused on getting kids outdoors, was a proud sponsor of The Freshwater Trust's Healthy Waters Institute student Watershed Summit on Thursday, May 14, 2009. The Summit was a culmination of a year's worth of work through the Student Stewardship Program that guides student activities to both scientifically investigate and artistically explore local issues related to watershed health.

Held at the Five Pines Lodge in Sisters, Oregon, local area students presented their findings and creations to peers and the community and were recognized for their work. Play Outdoors CEO Sarah Laufer remarks, "I really believe in watershed and environmental education as it helps connect kids to their local, natural landscape. The Watershed Summit is just one way we like to support the community and our future generations. Through such ecologically-minded programs students are united both to the community and health of the land."

While in the past Play Outdoors has helped to raise money for the program, this year they chose to increase their sponsorship and hold a raffle for the kids. "Play Outdoors was proud to sponsor this year's Watershed Summit to support the commitment made by students who spend the entire year researching and observing watershed maintenance and preservation techniques. You could see how proud and excited they were, the benefits and confidence they've gained is invaluable to them and the community's future."

Play Outdoors strives to provide the gear, share education and ideas, and enable community projects specifically with the objective of getting kids outdoors to enjoy nature. The Watershed Summit is an example of an ideal collaborative effort and Play Outdoors congratulates this year's student participants.
