Lake Havasu City welcome Memorial Day revelers

Affordable rates entice Memorial Day revelers to Lake Havasu City. While the sparkling blue waters beckon, lower prices on hotels, gas and more will make the boating paradise an even more attractive destination.

Lake Havasu City, AZ (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 19, 2009 -- The countdown is underway for the unofficial start of summer, and generally one of the busiest weekends for the city.

The Bridge Channel, which flows beneath the world famous London Bridge, is a popular hang out.

Memorial Day weekend is the first “long” weekend of the summer, allowing families to get out of town for the first trip. Seen as the “unofficial” start to summer, which technically begins June 21, Memorial Day brings boaters by the thousands to the blue waters of Lake Havasu.

“Clear skies, warm air and cool blue water make Lake Havasu City the perfect Memorial Day spot,” said Lake Havasu City Convention and Visitors Bureau President and CEO Char Beltran. “Whether it’s boating on the lake, a barbecue at Rotary Park or just about any type of summer activity, Lake Havasu City is the ideal spot,” she said.

Lake Havasu City is located just a short drive from the southwest’s largest population centers. It’s only three from Phoenix, two from Las Vegas and four to five from the Los Angeles region.

Affordability is another key factor, as the cost for a trip will leave more in your wallet this year. Average gas prices are more than $1.50 less per gallon than this time last year. Savings for filling up a truck and boat can easily reach the hundreds of dollars.

Lodging will also come easier this year, as hotels are promoting attractive rates. “We are offering our lowest holiday rates for guests looking for all-suite accommodations,” said Cal Sheehy, the general manager of the London Bridge Resort. “It will be a fun filled weekend to launch the summer boating season.”

Kristina Gallo, general manager of the Days Inn, said guests who stay for the entire weekend will see a tremendous savings. “We have a special where if you stay for three nights, you’ll pay $89.99 per night, as opposed to the $129.99 nightly rate,” she said. Guests will save $40 per night by staying the full weekend.

A condo for the weekend will also save money, as many of these properties are also cutting rates. “I’ve lowered my rates by nearly 20 percent,” said Carolyn Bruce, owner of Xanadu Vacation Condos. “These are prices that are 2002 levels, and they will last throughout the summer,” she said.

Some properties, such as The Nautical, are holding special Memorial Day parties. “All weekend long our favorite local band Tantrum will be performing at the Turtle Beach Bar at 8 pm. On Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to 6 pm we will have a Memorial Day barbecue in the cove.” For details, call 800-892-2141.
